Things You Never Hear

  • Seriously, The Daily Show was way better when Craig Killborn hosted it.
  • As a professional web developer, I can assure you that there is no better browser than Internet Explorer.
  • The Last Waltz was kind of mediocre until Neil Diamond came on stage.
  • But what about all the good things George W. Bush has done?
  • I’ll never replace Windows ME on my computer.
  • Hey, will you sign my petition to get Supertrain released on DVD?
  • I wish Kajagoogoo would reunite.
  • I’m worried they may be rushing Perl 6 to market.
  • I miss New Coke.
  • The Fox network does too much to support new series.
  • George Lucas should edit Jar-Jar into the original trilogy.
  • You can have this mint condition Joust Pinball machine if you’ll just haul it out of my basement.
  • Now available: Duke Nukem Forever
  • Thank God I bought an N-Gage!

Some notes:

Here is a site with some info on Supertrain on VHS, and who to contact about a DVD release:
http://nbc_supertrain.tripod.com/id8.html

Kajagoogoo did reunite on a VH1 show in 2004. Their bassist, the great Nick Beggs, who has worked with John Paul Jones and other notable artists in the past, managed to hold most of the group together long enough that they released a single a couple months ago.

I think you can still buy New Coke/Coke II in Quebec…

YOU’RE WELCOME!

Alright smartass….

Trying to get Supertrain released on DVD is obviously somebody’s idea of a joke. You know, just some clown trying to see if they can get some corporate jack-off to actually do it. I imagine the conversation goes like this:

Some Clown: Please, please, please release Supertrain on DVD!

Corporate Jack-off: Are you fucking high?

And you know, instead of Supertrain I almost went with Manimal. Would that have been better?

Just because Kajagoogoo reuinited and put out a single doesn’t mean anybody wanted them too. I don’t think anybody wanted the Manson Family to slaughter Sharon Tate, but they did it anyway. And the bassist for Kajagoogoo is like really really underrated? Well then maybe he should play in a band that doesn’t suck.

New Coke in Quebec? Does anybody really give a fuck what goes on in French Canada? Nope, not even the rest of Canada. But Coca Cola continues to keep it on shelves there, just so they can pretend it wasn’t a complete failure. “Hey look! We still sell it in Quebec!” They put it in a handful of supermarkets, and only occasionally does any of it sell through, and even that ends badly when Pierre beats the fuck out of his wife for bringing home the wrong kind of Coke. And this is only a small fraction of the misery New Coke has caused mankind.

I mean, this is all in good fun, but whether you liked their one Top Ten US hit or not, Kaja were very popular in the UK and Europe, and had a bit of a following over here. “Too Shy” made it to #1 in the UK before any of Duran Duran’s did (they were discovered by Duran keyboardist Nick Rhodes). Nick Beggs has worked with: Belinda Carlisle, Seal, Gary Numan, Howard Jones, Toyah Willcox, John Paul Jones, Steve Howe, Warren Cuccurullo, Tina Turner, and Midge Ure–who I don’t think suck.

I would think that because of its somewhat legendary cult status it would be a good idea to put Supertrain on DVD. I mean, someone went to the trouble of making an episode guide, obviously they have some sort of devotion to it. You should see some of the sucky shows they have on DVD.

Yes, Quebec is kinda lame, except for the abundance of strip clubs and its proximity to Chicago. What do I care, I drink Diet Coke and didn’t really pay attention to the New Coke thing anyway.

You got me on the Neil Diamond thing…I thought you would find this amusing:

“Diamond had been invited to perform by Robertson, who wanted the songwriters of Tin Pan Alley to be represented. Robertson had also produced Diamond’s album Beautiful Noise the same year and co-wrote “Dry Your Eyes,” which during the concert he hailed as a “great song.” Diamond’s appearance was not popular with all of the other performers. Levon Helm was critical of the inclusion of Diamond, not discerning any musical connection to The Band, as was Ron Wood, who stated in an 1980s interview, “None of us could understand what he was doing there.” Dylan also apparently held him in low esteem: Reportedly, when Diamond came off stage he remarked to Dylan, “You’ll have to be pretty good to follow me”, to which Dylan responded, “What do I have to do, go on stage and fall asleep?”"

I bet you there’s some asshole that preferred the Daily Show when Craig Kilborn hosted it (besides Craig Kilborn). It’s the same asshole that thinks Genesis sold out when they dropped Peter Banks and Yes sucked ever since they sacked Anthony Phillips and so on…
